I'm pretty sure that if they'd declared 214 runs behind at 22-5 in a match they needed to win, or at least draw and get batting bonus points to stay up, they'd have been slapped with an enormous points deduction that would have ensured their relegation even if they'd somehow managed to win their game.

ECB match liaison officer (think that's the job title) has declared that the pitch was 'below average ' for excessive turn...
Has to be 'poor' for point deduction to become possible.
Kevan gutted about that on national radio.
